A call from an old friend draws the Pearsons down to Somerset, where they’re reunited with Father Rashford. Now working with a conservation group, the priest has become involved in attempts to restore an old priory. Something dark is lurking near the ancient building, however, and blood has already been spilled.
As they set to work, Jonathan and Rebecca find themselves drawn in different directions by the religious nature of the task at hand. Jonathan is convinced that the evil at Scarham Priory is entirely down to mankind, whereas Rebecca is starting to think that Father Rashford might be right when he questions some of the darker aspects of the case. For Rose, meanwhile, the investigation is a chance to prove she can work without Alicia around.
Soon, however, the Pearsons discover that the evil lurking in Scarham Priory might be the gravest threat they’ve ever faced. An ancient force is seeking a way back into this world, and the priory’s cracked altar might be its best opportunity yet.
