He came down into a forest that wasn’t there when he clipped in.

The System is very clear about the terms. There is exactly one way out of this forest, and it runs through every living thing in it.
Here’s the problem.
Theo has never hurt anything in his life. He catches spiders in a glass and carries them out to the porch at two in the morning because he can’t sleep knowing one’s in the house.
Now he’s holding a running chainsaw, and a counter in the corner of his eye that ticks up every time something stops moving.
So that’s the choice. Stay the man who wouldn’t kill a spider, and die in here as him.
Or start cutting, and find out what’s standing at the other end.
Level 4 rats in the litter. A Level 49 apex predator at the bottom of the dark. Fourteen inches of chainsaw between them.
