English | 2026 | Mystery & Thriller
Mike Obrien finds himself in the former Yugoslavia fresh from teaching high school students in New York. After a groundbreaking Ph.D. thesis, he is made headmaster of a school in Belgrade. His analytic skills attract the CIA head of station. He is recruited and finds a place navigating the bus just behind the driver. The bus is lurching through the shattering of Yugoslavia and the fall of communism, more broadly. His analytic skills are offered and sometimes ignored by the distracted and egotistical drivers. Through it all, he runs schools there and back home. In the end, there is no choice but to fulfill his destiny. He becomes a reluctant but essential assassin.
